The Messerschmitt Me262 Schwalbe
This was the first turbojet-powered aircraft in the world to ever enter service. Its late entry into World War II reduced its effectiveness for the German Luftwaffe as availability of skilled pilots and fuel diminished. Though its design and speed were years ahead of its time, it was a technological marvel that set a spark to eventually ignite the jet age. But it remains one of the most formidable air-superiority fighters, bombers, and night fighters of its era.
